We all already know and have verified that the weirdest things mostly happen in nature. Trovants stones are proof of this.
They meet in Romania, because of them many tourists have already started flying to this country to see at least once what they look like. These are unusual stones that can grow, multiply, and even move around.
Their home is one of the smallest villages there – Costestio. Local residents have not been interested in them for a long time, because trovants have become commonplace for them.
They have been telling legends about them for a long time, which eventually turned out to be true. Some locals make souvenirs out of them, and buyers claim that when they get wet, they begin to multiply like mushrooms and even move around the house, which looks quite creepy.
Residents are already accustomed to them and it seems that nothing will surprise them.
These unusual phenomena are believed to have formed after prolonged seismic activity. Earthquake impacts crushed sandy soils and formed such stones. In Romania, trovants have been found in more than 20 places.
Trovants are formed by a hard stone core, they are surrounded by sand or gravel. Only very porous deposits of sand, rich in calcium carbonat formed such an unusual structure.
For the formation of trovants, calcium carbonate is needed in them. They absorb the minerals from the rain, then they mix with the chemicals in them and because of that they start to grow because the pressure starts inside them. For 1000 years, they grow by 4-5 centimeters.
Trovants are usually smooth, they do not have sharp edges, they can also be spherical or nodular in shape. During growth and reproduction, their shape and size can also change, which ranges from a few millimeters and even up to 10 meters.
Trovants are unusual not only in their structure and ability to develop and reproduce. These unusual phenomena are able to move from one place to another.
They have rhizomatous extensions and age rings that become apparent with time. Scientists have not yet figured out how to explain such a phenomenon, because their characteristics are beyond logic. It is impossible to explain how they developed such qualities over time.
It is still obscure whether they should be categorize as living or non-living, because they clearly combine the properties of both stone and plants. Live or not, they are magnificent, every person should see at least once in a lifetime!
