For several years, doctors struggled to provide a specific diagnosis, until it was revealed that she had multiple chemical sensitivities.
They advised that she must live in a sterile environment, isolated within a special shelter, to avoid constant pain.
In response, her family built this isolated shelter where she has resided for the past 13 years.
Juana is only able to leave the shelter for periodic check-ups, and even then, not every year.
Venturing outside causes tremendous suffering for her.
To minimize the risk of harming Juana and to enable occasional hugs, her family adheres to a strict diet for several days and ensures their clothes are meticulously clean.
Despite the limitations imposed by her condition, Juana’s daughter is expecting a child soon.
However, the grandmother will not be able to hold the baby in her arms due to her condition.
Nevertheless, Juana remains resilient and continues to fight against this illness.
In a touching display of courage, she agrees to test a special breathing mask.
This experience allows her to walk around the garden for the first time in years and, ultimately, embrace her elderly mother once again.
