A Chihuahua named Freddy has spent the last 9 years in a small metal cage. She spent her entire life in a breeding cage and rarely went outside.
She never knew family life and love. Without knowing it, she gave birth to hundreds of puppies a year before her owner decided to get rid of him because she was too old.
Freddy and 34 other puppies were rescued from a Midwestern breeder by the National Mill Dog Rescue Service (NMDR).
At first, Freddie was very shy and reserved, like most dogs rescued from a kennel. It didn’t take long for his rescuers to get used to them by Freddie.
Dogs that live in cages suffer a lot, both physically and mentally. Although Freddie had a strong spirit, many dogs still require serious rehabilitation before they are ready to join their families.
Teresa gave Freddie his first ever bed, and Freddie manifested in a unique way. This has become a major event for many dogs and the start of many other firsts.
It was very bittersweet, especially for older dogs like Freddie who spent their entire lives in puppy mills while their puppies were being sold.
Teresa said that the realization that the needs of children are not being met to this day terrifies them.
When Teresa first entered Freddie’s kennel at the shelter, she rolled out of bed and the puppy immediately stared at her.
She moved until his tail was between her legs. Freddie immediately jumped up and curled up in bed as soon as he was laid down.
