The owl takes the duck egg as her own and raises the duckling

Lori Wolfe is an amateur photographer based in Florida who recently spotted something unusual in her backyard. It was a duck.

One day she installed some birdhouses in her backyard. While shifting eggs from nest to nest, they also spotted ducks.

However, at the time they had no idea why they were doing it. Until he discovered that this disproportionate couple lived in the same nest.

But the woman was worried about the safety of the ducklings and turned to a specialist. In the end, Laurie decided that for the safety of the duckling, it was best to take him to a local shelter.

But this was not necessary, and the owl behaved as if it were her own child. It was then that the woman realized that they had a special relationship.

A few days later, Lori was seen emerging from a cardboard box. They actually leave the nest less than 24 hours after hatching.

This is because they suddenly jumped out of the box and ran out into the back yard and the neighbor’s yard with a pond.

But the amazing thing is that the owl hatched the duck egg herself, as if it were hers. The director says this is not often recorded, but it certainly happens. He adds that mallards tend to lay their eggs in other people’s nests.

“You might think that we don’t collect all the eggs in one place. If you distribute the eggs, you slightly increase the chances of gene transfer.

This is especially true if they are lost to predators,” he explains. “We know it happens, but we don’t know how often. So it was nice to see another example of this phenomenon.”
