Nursing home staff heard meowing from the sewer and called rescuers

On the afternoon of June 13, 2022, Lakeside staff at a nursing home in Fernandina Beach, Florida, USA, heard a faint mew from the facility’s backyard sewer.

Unable to lift the platform’s thick doors, they contacted the Jacksonville Fire Department for help.

Upon arrival, rescuers found a small kitten, a few weeks old, who had accidentally fallen off the rebar.

He had no mother or brothers. The situation was delicate. The poor baby was immersed in the semi-dirty water and choked.

Climbing the railing, the police descended into the cave to find the kitten by its meows. An employee of the institution took him under his protection and took him home to take care of him.

He bathed him, warmed him and fed him for a kitten of this age. He also took him to the vet for a checkup, which turned out to be a bit reassuring.

The team posted a photo of the rescue on Facebook and asked the community to come up with a suitable name for the little surviving kitten.

Some thoughts lead inexperienced owners to call their baby Chuck (chuck means fall).

Now our little survivor is enjoying his warm new home, and he has made caring and compassionate new friends among his pets.
